The Ditto web site is a web search engine that offers a visual, rather than textual, mechanism to search the web. Searching through pictures is a fun, fast and intuitive way to navigate the richness of the web. For example, the human eye will almost immediately recognize the difference in a picture pertaining to the American Civil War relative to the Civil War in Bosnia or a centennial battle re-enactment. This is an improvement versus wading through cryptic text excerpts and URLs.

The Ditto web site grew from a constant lament that there "Must be a better way to find what you're looking for on the web." Therefore, the use of thumbnails is necessary to facilitate the visual search mechanism. These thumbnails are not used by Ditto for any other purpose than to provide an effective visual search mechanism. The real value of the Ditto site is in its aggregate index of information on the web.

Materials on the web are generally placed there with the expectation that they will be publicly and widely seen. Many of these materials are protected by copyright and Ditto, by virtue of locating and displaying links to these materials, does not hold, grant or imply any license to use these pictures for any purpose other than viewing them on the web. While we encourage users of Ditto to use the site and have fun doing so, if you would like to use any pictures from sites you have found while searching our site, you must contact the webmaster at that site and obtain the appropriate permission to do so.

If you have pictures on the web that you would like to have indexed on the Ditto web site, please go to Contact Us. Ditto, at its sole discretion, reserves the right to remove and/or to refuse to index any site it deems offensive, illegal or inappropriate.

Like other search engines, Ditto employs automated web crawling technology to build its web picture index. If your site has been indexed and you do not wish to be included in the Ditto picture index, please go to Contact Us and identify the site URL and Ditto will promptly remove the site from the search index along with the thumbnail references.

Ditto provides visual search of the web using pictures. Users are linked to the originating web site on which the pictures are located. Should you wish to use any picture, photo or artwork you see during the search process, you must obtain the appropriate permission from the owner of the material.
